Birds of the Alligator Farm
May 4-7, 2025
St. Augustine, Florida
Join us as we explore the native swamp exhibit where hundreds of wading birds fly in to roost in the late afternoons. Herons, egrets, ibis, spoonbills, and wood storks will be seen in their natural habitat. Over the years, the rookery has grown in size to what it is today, one of the largest natural bird rookeries in the state of Florida. The swamp extends over approximately two acres of natural wetlands and is home to around 65 American Alligators and many native turtles and we’ll be shooting during peak mating season for Great and Snowy Egrets. We’ll also visit some of the surrounding areas historical St. Augustine has to offer. This workshop will start on Sunday night to discuss shooting technique and what we’ll see and lay out our itinerary. This will allow us to start shooting early Monday morning. We’ll shoot all day Tuesday and Wednesday and have review and critique sessions after the workshop.
Places we’ll visit: St. Augustine Alligator Farm (Bird Rookery), St Augustine beaches and oceanfront, Historic St. Augustine and surrounding areas.
What we’ll learn: A variety of techniques for capturing birds in their native habitat, capturing the coastal landscape, techniques for sunrises/sunsets and more.
